Borderfree Delivery is a logistics solution which gives U.S. direct retailers a cost-effective method to ship their packages into Canada. It also provides you with the information you need to calculate and charge duties, taxes and Canadian shipping costs in your checkout. No more CODs.

How it Works

Retailers export their product catalog to Borderfree in an XML format. Borderfree calculates the duty rates of the commodities and whether or not the product can be imported. Borderfree then provides an updated catalog file back to the retailer.

The retailer retains control of the customer shopping experience and is responsible for collecting duties, taxes and shipping charges for orders that are bound for Canada. The Retailer takes the order in their OMS and broadcasts the details of the order to Borderfree via XML file feed.

The Retailer then bills the customer card for whatever items are shipping, and packages are shipped to Borderfree’s hub facility in Taylor, MI.

Packages are received by Borderfree and are prepared for customs clearance and aggregated shipping into Canada. Borderfree clears customs and remits all duties, taxes and shipping costs to the appropriate parties and reconciles for the actual costs with the retailer.

Returns are handled through Borderfree’s Canadian returns facility. Canadian customers will ship their packages back to our in Canada receiving address where the packages will be aggregated and shipped back to the retailer in the US. Borderfree will draw back the original duties and taxes from the government and reimburse the retailer for these fees.
